About the Connichi
The Connichi is a voluntarily organized event with focus on Anime, Manga and Japanese pop and youth culture – an Anime-Manga-Convention for short. It is held once a year in September in the Kongress Palais Kassel and the rooms of the adjacent H4 hotel. With currently 27,000 visitors over the course of three days it is the biggest event organized entirely by volunteers and the biggest event of the non-profit association Animexx e.V.
The first Connichi took place in May of 2002 in Ludwigshafen and it quickly became obvious to us that there was immense potential for growth. Thus, we already ventured the change of location to the Kongress Palais Kassel in 2003.
With a growing visitor’s base, we were able to deliver a more diverse program and are very happy to be able to offer a broad variety of fan artists, talks, workshops, Japanese guests and more:
Exhibitors and Vendors
Newest imports or rare gems - our vendors and exhibitors are showcasing and selling the hottest anime and manga products.
Another highlight are our daily cosplay competitions: the German preliminaries of the World Cosplay Summit as well as our own Connichi Cosplay Competition.
This year as well, we are going to present top-class musical acts on the great stage in the Ceremonial Hall.
Guests of Honor
Our guests of honor join visitors in panels and can be encountered in numerous autograph sessions. Furthermore, some guests of honor teach exclusive illustration classes or present their work in person.
Talks and Panels
Live-streaming at Connichi Couch, Talks about Japan and fan culture or our talks about topics related to Japanse Studies - there is always something to learn at Connichi.
The core of the event are both stages, the Blue Hall with 650 and the Ceremonial Hall with more than 1300 seats. There is an endless coming and going of our Japanese and German guests, as well as musical highlights and performances of showacts.
Starting three years ago, we present a Japanese street festival in the inner yard, with conclusive firework show.
Numerous workshops invite our visitors to join, be it the calligraphy course, Japanese for Beginners, Kimono fitting or Illustrating & Coloring.
Honored by the Japanese Foreign Minister
In 2014 the Connichi organizing team was invited to the residence of the former consul general Mister Sakamoto. There we received the Foreign Minister’s Commendation for 2014. The Connichi is contributing positively to the spread of Japanese pop-culture and other aspects of Japanese culture in Germany. This Commendation is being awarded since 1995 and Connichi is the first German Convention that has been honored by the Foreign Minister for contributing to spread Japanese culture in Germany.
